Martha Laraba Sambe

Sambe Martha Laraba is a multidisciplinary artist, writer, and spiritualist from southern Kaduna, Nigeria. Drawing from the animist traditions of her ancestral lineage, her work bridges the spiritual and political, as well as the mundane and mystical. She is the author of the memoir Dear Bode, What the Fire Gave Me (2023) and was long-listed for the 2024 African Women’s Nonfiction Writing Workshop. Her writing encompasses creative nonfiction, development journalism, and academic research, with contributions to projects on migration, voter suppression in Nigeria, gender-based violence, queer language archiving, etc. Beyond writing, Laraba is also a performer, practicing medium, and the creator of Spring of Wellness, a newsletter focused on spirit-centered living.
